It didn’t come as a surprise; Canadian Jonathan Duhamel used the massive chip lead he started in heads-up play to win the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event. Duhamel succeeded in the No-Limit Texas Hold’Em world championship after about two hours of heads-up play that began late yesterday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Heads-up action started against Floridian John Racener on Tuesday night at 8PM PST with Racener staring up a big hill as he held 30,650,000 chips to Duhamel’s 188,950,000. Racener’s methods primarily consisted of extremely old school Winner Poker Bonus play that had him limping into the pots he played and folding most hands. Racener, on the other hand, did what big stacks do best and put the pressure with consistent raising from the button combined with occasional limping.
Before dropping out, Duhamel majored in finance of the University of Quebec in Montreal. He’s been a full-time Winner Poker Review poker pro — generally online — for about the last two years, earning $43,000 in WSOP events before today’s payday.
